For the weekend 7 - 9 November, in the US Box Office chart, SHL was ranked 22nd, showing on 355 screens. In the charts for 14 - 16 November, the film is not there at all.

is one example of a site that tries to present a comprehensive chart, showing 130 films, but SHL is still not there. This seems odd to me, that it should drop from 355 screens to 0 screens in one go, and not fizzle out a bit more slowly. Does anyone know why a studio/distributor should sometimes do this?

Hi alan,

The trouble is that Newline does not track , or rather , publish, the daily box office of its films, so industry box office watchers are dependent on their own sources and methods of tracking the box office of such films. The box office of Secondhand Lions for the week of Nov 14-16 is not available at all, but an estimate has been done for the weekend of Nov 21 -23 in USA. It is currently appearing only on 149 screens and is ranked at number 33.

Check it out here :

Any idea how it is doing or how it did in the UK ?

Thanks Danchia. I note that the-numbers.com has now supplied estimated data for the missing week.

http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/2003/2NDLN.php

It still seems very odd that everyone ignored or forgot about the film completely for that week.

The situation in the UK is similar. I can't find any data for the fourth week.

The cinema search facility on the BBC web site suggests that in the whole of London there will be only two more screenings, in one East end cinema.
