David the boy mecha in Artificial Intelligence is without doubt Haley Joel Osment's greatest performance to date. This was the performance that should have garnered Haley an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor that year, but he was shockingly overlooked. Critically acclaimed, Haley brought to Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence an astoundingly nuanced performance, sensitive and subtle, and emotionally devastating. Filmgoers who were moved by Haley's incredible performance remain affected by it till today, and this must count as one of the finest performances by any actor, young or old, ever seen on screen.

Haley Joel Osment appeared with Steven Spielberg at France's Deauville Festival of American Cinema, The 27th festival from 31 August to 9 September 2001. He gave a short but tremendously charming address to the delighted Deuville audience in French , and went on to wow the audience with his performance in A.I. , which was screened to critical acclaim at this prestigious festival.
