On 24th January 2000, Haley was invited as a guest on the wildly popular Japanese entertainment show, SMAPxSMAP as part of his promotional tour for The Sixth Sense in Japan. Despite his inability to speak the Japanese language, Haley proved that his talent and charm transcended all barriers, including that of language.
Appearing on a foreign language show would have intimidated any actor, let alone someone as young as he was then, but Haley conducted himself with aplomb, as this video clip clearly shows. He was the consumnate professional , always gracious, totally relaxed , eloquent and articulate, and he won over his Japanese hosts and audience alike with tremendous charm.

| Watch out for this classic Haley moment ! One of the SMAP members holds up a drawing that he has done, depicting the scene in The Sixth Sense when the little ghost girl appears under the bed. Watch as Haley studies the drawing intently, then his eyebrows shoot up in his characteristic manner as recognition of that scene registers on his face, ending with a beautiful bright smile on his face ! Nothing fake or pretentious about this little boy ! That's our boy, Haley ! |
